VoC Board Member, Nizam Bashir and Ratna Osman, Executive Director of Sisters in Islam were recently on BFM to discuss issues related to illegitimate children and the practice of including “binti/bin Abdullah” in their names. A recent decision by the National Registration Department’s (NRD) to not allow a birth certificate to record the father’s name if the child is born less than six months after their marriage is being met with some resistance in some states.
