VoC’s Legal Training Programme

VoC works with and through the legal and judicial systems to strengthen the administration of justice to children, as well as to ensure that Malaysia’s laws and policies ensure full protection and development of children. In 2012, VoC was awarded a three-year grant from Khazanah Nasional to develop and conduct a training program for members of the legal system in handling children’s cases. The training programs will include course modules that combine legal training with information about working with children, all in the context of children’s rights. Participants will become more knowledgeable about children’s rights and sensitive to children in the legal system. The training programme will enable VoC to advance our goal of strengthening child protection and justice for children, as well as help develop a network of adults committed to children’s issues.

The first session, focusing on children’s rights within the context of criminal law, was held on 27-28 April 2013 at Sunway University. The session was facilitated by Dr Farah Nini Dusuki  from University Malaya and Ms. Suzanna Abdul Hadi from Taylor’s University. Participants received a comprehensive training manual that provides additional material on the laws, treaties and issues raised in the session.
